It is reported that Positano had been established by people escaping from Paestum after an incursion of Saracen Pyrates.

Therefore the oldest settlement that we know has Roman origins.

Nevertheless, some findings of the Paleolithic period have been lastly discovered in Positano. They show the even more ancient origin of the town.
